House Locations and Styles
Disclaimer: This article was written before housing was implimented and was an essay on the types that the developers might choose. Ultimately the "Suburb" type of housing was added.
Locations
- As mentioned in the previous section of Housing Mechanics, there are four possible methods of adding houses to the game. Each one has it's own criteria and limitations on where a house can be placed.
Below are examples of where each style can be built for player use within the current region of Eriador.
- The Suite - Instanced room/s within a current house model or structure.
- Bree
- Trestlebridge
- Brandy Hall
- Rivendell
- Thorin’s Halls
- Gondomon
- Duillond
- Celondim
- Michael Delving
- Hobbiton
- Tuckborough
- The Neighborhood (in town) - Instanced neighborhood within a current settlement, utilizing the current buildings or spaces within that have not been filled.
- Bree (three or four courtyard areas)
- Trestlebridge (on the west side)
- Brandy Hall (accessed inside or from outside door)
- Thorin’s Halls (accessed inside through side doors)
- Michael Delving (accessed inside or from outside door)
- Tuckborough (accessed inside or from outside door)
- The Suburb (out in the country) - Instanced neighborhood arranged as a secluded town in the wild.
- Combe (accessed from a side gate, with a landlord NPC standing near) (The Bree Homestead was added East of South Chetwood along the road)
- Buckland (accessed from a side gate, neighborhood surrounded by hedge)
- Hobbiton (accessed from a side gate leading into a hedged area)
- Michael Delving (accessed from a side gate leading into a small dell) (The Shire Homestead was added South of Michael Delving on the road to South Farthing)
- Wood Hall (accessed from a side gate leading into a Green Hill Country clearing.)
- Thorin’s Halls (accessed from a mountain-side gate that leads into a small valley) (Thorin's Halls Homestead was added West of the courtyard)
- Celondim (accessed by a forest gate that leads into a small vale filled with trees and housing plots)
- Duillond (accessed by a gate leads into Elven caverns beneath the city) (The Elven Falathlorn Homestead was added East of Duilond south of the road leading to the Shire)
- Rivendell (accessed by a wooded path that leads into a small vale large enough for ten to twenty plots)
- The Villa - Instanced plot of land, accessed from anywhere.
- Combe (accessed from a side gate)
- Buckland (accessed from a side gate, plot surrounded by hedge)
- Hobbiton (accessed from a side gate leading into a hedged area)
- Michael Delving (accessed from a side gate leading into a side dell)
- Wood Hall (accessed from a side gate leading into a forested side clearing)
- Tuckborough (accessed from a side gate leading into a hillside dell bordered by hedges, stone wall, or trees)
- Thorin’s Gates (accessed from a mountain-side gate that leads into a small valley, similar to that guard house near Thorin’s Stables)
- Celondim (accessed by a forest gate that leads into a small vale filled with trees and your housing plot)
- Duillond (accessed by a gate leads a house off to the side, surrounded by woods or high walls)
- Rivendell (accessed by a valley gate that leads into a small ravine or sheltered dell large enough for a single plot)
Future Locations
- Whichever method, or combination of methods, is chosen will determine which areas in future expansions may be used for player housing and kinship halls.
- Future areas can actually be build with a method in mind. Minas Tirth for instance has great potential for either Neighborhood or Suburb style placement. With enough structures, even the Suite method may be enough.
- Areas such as Caras Galadon, Erebor, Dale, Laketown, Thranduil's Halls, Edoras, Minas Tirith, Pelargir, Dol Amroth, and others.
Housing Styles
- Regional housing should be kept in mind for choices of housing style. It simply wouldn't do to have an Elven-style house located within walking distance of Bree.
- Current styles include:
- Bree-style housing (Breelands, North Downs, Lonelands)
- Elven-style housing (Ered Luin, Rivendell, Trollshaws)
- Hobbit-style housing (Shire, Breelands)
- Dwarf-style halls (Ered Luin, Misty Mountains)
- Future styles may include
- Dale-style housing (Dale, Laketown, Dorwinion)
- Rohan-style housing (Rohan, Dunland, White Mountains)
- Gondor-style housing (Gondor, Umbar, Dol Amroth)
- Dwarf-style halls (Erebor, Iron Hills, Grey Mountains, White Mountains)
- Elven-style halls (Mirkwood, Lindon)
- Elven-style housing (Lorien, Lindon, Mirkwood)
- Certain housing styles could also be affected by the class you've chosen. For instance, a Hunter may have access to a Hunter's Lodge layout, or a Loremaster have access to a plan which includes a library.
- Class-specific furniture could be made available.
Housing Sizes
- Houses can come in varying sizes such as Small, Medium, Large, and Extra Large.
- Size is determined by number of rooms, floors, and collective square footage.
- Small Houses may have but one or two rooms.
- Medium Houses may have two to four rooms, and two floors.
- Large Houses may have three to six rooms, and three floors.
- Extra Large may have four to eight or more rooms, and three floors.
- Kinship Halls would retain their own catagory of sizes. (one size only)
